AN INSPIRATION FROM THE SUBWAY MAP
Next week, my son and I are embarking on a thrilling adventure to Seoul, while my wife attends to important matters back home. It's going to be quite the challenge, but what better way to bond as father and son! Our first mission is to understand the local subway system, as it's the perfect way to reach almost all of the city's attractions. We spent a good amount of time researching and planning our six-day itinerary in Seoul, but the densely packed areas and Korean pinyin names were a bit overwhelming. Nevertheless, we persisted.
To start, we had to understand the names of the final station and which station comes next to get a rough idea of the direction. From there, we searched for transfer stations, which gave us a sense of the subway's network. Slowly but surely, we traced the connecting stations from one to five, ten, and twenty, and I finally understood the structure. We then used GPS to gain a better understanding of the street conditions in real life. After an hour, we had our itinerary outline ready and were all set to go!
When I begin coaching conversations with clients, it can often feel like we don't know where to start. But with patience and curiosity, we can peel away the layers of the challenge together and get to the core of the issue. Through guided questioning, clients can begin to see the structure and patterns in their tangled thoughts, and the fear of the unknown can be replaced with a sense of direction when the next step becomes clear.
It takes a sense of curiosity, unwavering patience, and courage to continue exploring and discovering. Although it can be nerve-wracking at times, we must trust our creativity to utilize our clients' resources and ideas, ultimately finding the smallest step towards their goals.
Every time we travel to an unfamiliar place, we feel a mix of nervousness and excitement. But in the end, our minds piece together a network map, and all the details of the trip naturally fall into place.
We can't wait to immerse ourselves in Seoul's unique culture and explore every corner of this vibrant city.
Love. David
