I'm just daring to imagine, and I believe that day is not far off. How will the interior design industry be in 2040?

  1. Collaborative design will transcend national borders, allowing designers to freely collaborate and combine their skills. Online design meetings will make it feel as if the designer is right beside the client, projecting images that immerse the client in the space. Language will no longer be a barrier. Those who adapt to time and cultural differences first will be able to survive.

  2. Construction drawings and material specifications will be automatically generated based on the client's confirmed design, significantly reducing the need for drawing and material production teams.

  3. Data collection will be entirely handled by artificial intelligence. Companies involved in data collection may be partially eliminated.

  4. Visualized spatial effects will be instantly displayed and allow for switching perspectives, with the number of design options no longer limited. Designers' work will involve understanding the true needs of clients and conducting “human-centric analyses”. Design modifications will become timely, and decision-making will be much easier.

  5. Everyone will have an AI virtual friend accompanying them, similar to wearing headphones for convenient conversation. They will provide customized opinions, guidance, and emotional support at any time. What the client needs is the unique thinking of the designer.

  6. Personal AI can connect with smart systems in hotels, homes, offices, restaurants, and other environments, making the surroundings and needs more suitable for individuals.

  7. Brainwave reading and the widespread use of virtual reality glasses will eliminate language barriers, enabling instantaneous information exchange. However, interpersonal interactions may become unfamiliar and valuable.

  8. Facial recognition and security systems will be ubiquitous, eliminating privacy. People will need to make choices between privacy and security. Private space design has become more important.

  9. Mobile hotels, mobile rooms, mobile homes, mobile restaurants, and mobile offices will emerge, providing people with the enjoyment of flexibility. Designers are also paying more attention to movable space design.

  10. The government will mandate that over 50% of materials used in commercial projects must be environmentally friendly; otherwise, they will be considered illegal.

  11. Trademark registration will become difficult because anyone can become a designer and print their customized products.

  12. The design process will become fast and simplified. What will remain is the reason why people choose you as a designer. Warm communication between people will become crucial.

  13. Everyone will have the same level of intelligence since they will have their own artificial intelligence. The value difference among designers will lie in their attitude and wisdom.

  14. Global design resources will be better utilized, leading to significantly reduced operating costs. Maintaining leadership between individuals will become important.

  15. Homes, hotels, restaurants, and sports arenas can also serve as private diagnostic rooms, scanning your body's condition changes in different settings and determining which hospital can provide the most significant medical assistance.

Unemployed designers will strive to rise above the challenges, realizing that the ability to maintain warmth and connection between people is crucial. Courses on soft skills such as interpersonal communication and leadership will be in high demand. The smooth transition of the 15 aforementioned points in the design industry requires visionary leaders and excellent communication skills to continue driving successful industry transformation.

Love.
