Inspiration From The Traffic Culture In Nha Trang

芽庄交通文化的启示

This week, my family and I went on vacation to Nha Trang, Vietnam. I had some interesting observations during our stay. While having breakfast at the hotel's all-day dining restaurant, I noticed that most of the guests were tourists from other cities in Vietnam. Although the restaurant was not crowded, I found that people kept crossing in front of me or getting very close to me, sometimes even brushing past me. I had to stop multiple times with my tray of food to make way for them to walk past me. It reminded me of the situation with local taxis on the roads.


  1. The distance between cars and between cars and people is very close. The closest distance between the side mirrors of the cars is only 2 centimeters.

  2. Due to the lack of traffic signals, the unwritten rule for driving is that the drivers decide who has the right of way only when they are about to collide.

  3. From my observation, there are more motorcycles than cars. The motorcycles stick to the cars like flies.

  4. Pedestrians crossing the road face the same situation. They have to wait until the last moment to see who gives way, otherwise, crossing the road can be very difficult.


However, during my five days in Nha Trang, the locals seemed to have adapted to this "culture." Everyone was getting along just fine, but as tourists, we felt a bit uncomfortable.


Yes, it's culture. When we immerse ourselves in corporate culture for many years, we seem to get used to the values, decision-making methods, corporate behavior, communication between people, and balance between life and work, without even realizing it. Regardless of whether they are appropriate or bureaucratic, companies need to periodically replace employees who use culture as a shield with other departments or new employees.


Only then can companies continuously update and incorporate new information, maintain lasting vitality, and break through blind spots.


本周我和家人一起来到了越南芽庄度假,期间我有了一些有趣的感受。在酒店的全日餐厅用早餐时,我发现大部分的客人都是来自越南其他城市度假的游客。虽然餐厅的人不多,但是我发现他们总是会在我面前穿过,或者距离我非常近,有时甚至还会擦过我身边。我不得不多次停下来让路,才能回到我的餐桌。这让我想起了路上的当地出租车。

  1. 车与车、车与人之间的距离非常接近,车子之间的倒车镜距离最近只有2厘米。

  2. 由于缺乏交通信号,开车的隐性规则是当车子即将相撞时才决定谁先让路。

  3. 从我的观察来看,摩托车的数量比汽车多,它们就像苍蝇一样粘着汽车。

  4. 行人过马路面临着同样的情况。他们不得不等到最后一刻才能看出谁会让路,否则过马路会非常困难。


然而在我在芽庄度过的五天里,当地人似乎已经适应了这种“文化”。大家都相处得很好,但作为游客的我们却感到有些不适应。


没错,这就是文化。当我们沉浸在企业文化中多年,我们习惯了价值观、决策方法、企业行为、人与人之间的沟通、生活与工作平衡等,而且我们甚至已经不再意识到这些东西,无论它们是合适的还是官僚的。因此,企业需要定期更换那些把文化当作挡箭牌的员工,把他们换到其他部门,或者换成新员工。


这样企业才能不断更新、吸收新信息,保持持久的活力,并突破盲点。
