The Organizational Structure
Today, I had the privilege of visiting a company. They graciously served me and arranged for one of their middle-level team members to pick me up in their luxurious car. While this may seem like a common occurrence, the message conveyed to other employees could be detrimental - "to pursue opportunities for promotion, one must be willing to act as a driver for their boss." Is this the culture that they want to project?
The culture of an organization is based on the small things that are repeated and ingrained until they become habits and values. Every action, word, and behavior of an organization projects one or more hidden messages. Your team members will follow your example, even in unexpected ways, so please don't assume that they won't.
It is crucial to be mindful of the messages that your actions convey to your team members. The organization's culture is only as strong as the habits and values that are consistently practiced and reinforced.
So, let's lead by example and ensure that the culture we project aligns with our values and goals.
Love. David
